Louise and Tom Eason thought it would be fun to get involved in the inaugural Ballarat Marathon on weekend of the 27th and 28th April 2024.
Louise chose the achievable 5k and Tom decided to challenge himself in the half marathon. They formed a team called The Milk Runners, a nod to both their family’s history in the dairy business and to Tom’s pharmaceutical science PhD. Louise’s sister Liz, then also decided she’d like to be part of it, and ran in the 5k with Louise.
Louise kindly shared their story with us.
“It was a fantastic weekend and we were so proud of Tom, completing the half marathon! We also chose to raise funds for Retina Australia, because when Tom was 21 he was diagnosed with Stargardt disease.
A diagnosis such as Tom’s has been life changing for him and distressing for his family. As a scientist himself, he understands how important donations and funding are for medical research.
It is my wish that we could see a cure for Stargardt disease in Tom’s lifetime.
Thank you so much to Retina Australia for your important research and continuing dedication to a world without inherited blindness.”
Thank you to the Milk Runners who raised $1,236.75 for Retina Australia!
