Retina Australia is delighted to host a webinar following the Retina Australia Annual General Meeting.
First, we will hear from the newly announced Retina Australia Hall of Fame awardee on their latest research in inherited retinal diseases (IRDs). Then, we will welcome Genetic Counsellor, Parker Truong to discuss his work.
Many people wonder why they might be referred for genetic testing after being diagnosed with an eye condition. In this talk, Parker will explain the different reasons someone who may have an inherited retinal condition could be referred, and the pathways available, such as through a public genetic service or a research study. He will also highlight why genetic counselling and genetic testing go hand in hand, and how genetic counsellors are there to support and advocate for you throughout the process, including helping you decide whether genetic testing is right for you.

Parker Truong Webinar
Presenter: Genetic Counsellor, Parker Truong
I work with people and families affected by inherited retinal disease, helping them understand their genetic information and what it could mean for their health and future. A big part of my role is supporting people to make informed decisions about genetic testing. I see patients in the genetics clinic at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, and I’m also involved in research at the University of Melbourne and the Centre for Eye Research Australia. Alongside this, I work in cancer genetics at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
