Retina Australia directors are thrilled to announce the recent appointment of Associate Professor Anai Gonzelez-Cordero and Dr Alexis (Ceecee) Britten-Jones to the Board. Anai and Ceecee have been long time supporters of the work of Retina Australia and together bring a breadth of experience that will compliment the existing directors.

Anai, an academic researcher with over a decade of expertise in inherited retinal diseases and stem cells, is the Unit Head of Stem Cell Medicine at the Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI), The University of Sydney. Anai also heads the Stem Cell and Organoid Facility at CMRI and is a founding member of various initiatives in the area of stem cells and novel approach methodologies. As well, Anai is a strong supporter and advocate for public engagement, believing that patient involvement at all levels of research is crucial to guiding novel discoveries.

Ceecee, an AHPRA-registered optometrist, is a Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne and Centre for Eye Research Australia. She has over 10 years’ experience in public health eye care and has played a key role in leading initiatives to grow inherited retinal disease research in Australia and to improve our understanding of these diseases. Ceecee, who also contributes to global initiatives aiming to improve inherited retinal disease diagnosis, brings a unique combination of research expertise, clinical experience, and a genuine passion for improving clinical care.

We welcome Anai and Ceecee to their new roles and look forward to continuing to work with them into the future.
