Retina Australia directors are pleased to announce that following the Annual General Meeting held 11 October 2025, Norlizzah (Liz) Syed was appointed to the Board. Liz is affected by retinitis pigmentosa and brings with her a wealth of experience, in living with an inherited retinal disease, that will complement the existing directors.

Liz is a lawyer by profession with legal experience gained in private practice, government, and in-house roles with various companies in Perth. In recent years she has raised money through community fundraising to help those living with low vision and blindness and participated in events and activities organised by Friends of Retina Australia Perth.

Although it can be difficult to navigate life with a deteriorating eye condition, Liz remains active by participating in sports, and by contributing to the community. She is committed to the challenge of ensuring required funds are raised for research into inherited retinal diseases.

We welcome Liz to her new role and look forward to working with her into the future.
