Dr Jon Ruddle is a consultant ophthalmologist at the Royal Children’s Hospital and Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. Since 2018 he has headed up the multidisciplinary Ocular Genetics Clinic at The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. Additionally he leads the ocular genetic clinic at the Royal Children’s Hospital. In both clinics and his weekly clinics he interacts daily with children, parents and their families facing the reality of retinal genetic eye disease. He is keen to see a world where these conditions can be easily diagnosed, better explained and hope and treatments come to fruition, aiming to achieve this  via multidisciplinary teams facilitating patient and family centred care. A Melbourne University graduate, he completed his ophthalmology training through the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in 2007. He undertook Fellowship training in Ocular Genetics, Glaucoma and Paediatric Ophthalmology in both Melbourne and London.  He continues to be actively involved in clinical and applied research into the genetic basis of diseases of all layers of the retina.
